Carnarvon Mullewa Road Construction and Sealing

Carnarvon Mullewa Road Construction and Sealing

Shire of Murchison

Project: Carnarvon Mullewa Road Construction and Sealing
Client: Shire of Murchison
Duration: May 2017 – Dec 2017 (7 Months)
Location: Murchison, Western Australia
Scope of work:

Construction of just over 9 km of sealed bitumen road with four cement stabilised floodway’s totalling 1.6km of the project. The works upgraded an existing gravel road using locally won material that was crushed and screened to create a suitable product for the road pavement. The main alignment was finished to a 4 m wide single coat seal with a double coat seal at 8 m wide for the floodways. Cut to fill earthworks and all road construction activities were conducted under live traffic conditions creating challenges when local events increased traffic flows. The project was extremely remote, and all works had to be completed autonomously, requiring mobile offices and staff facilities to be self-contained and self-sufficient. Water supply was accessed via ground water bores with 4-inch submersible pumps running 24 hours a day to keep up with requirements. Water testing was also required to ensure salinity did not affect project outcomes. B&J Catalano used its D10 dozer; 950-988 loaders; double-side tipping road trains; graders; 633 scrapers; 25T excavator; mobile crushing and screening plant; compactors; and associated ancillary equipment to complete works. Fleet repairs and maintenance was undertaken on-site using our mobile workshop facility.

We have partnered up on many large-scale earthworks projects and their high-quality, well-maintained equipment has allowed us to successfully complete these jobs and win repeat business from our clients. I look forward to continuing to work together for many years to come.
